Welcome Back to the 2025-26 School Year!
|
Dear Edgemont Parents and Guardians, Our first day of school is Tuesday, September 2, 2025, and all of our staff are excited to welcome students back for another great year! Our staff have been back to work since August 27, and we are excited to welcome two new teachers to our team: Ms. Jenifer Regan (Grade 1) and Ms. Hannah Reed (Grade 2). We welcome back Mrs. Carol Hanson as Acting Assistant Principal through September. The staff energy in our school this week has been so positive as teachers prepare inviting and engaging classroom spaces for students! Many teachers spent time this summer doing professional development in math or the new social studies curriculum. Over the past three days, our teams have been busy collaborating on grade-level planning, organizing resources, and engaging in land-based learning experiences that will support our work with students this year. We can’t wait to share all this positive energy with our students on Tuesday! Who is my teacher? You should have already received a message from your child’s teacher introducing themselves and providing details on where to meet on the first day. If you haven’t received this information, please connect with one of our staff members wearing a pink safety vest. They will be happy to help and can look up your child’s class placement. There will also be many staff members outside to greet students and assist families as needed. At 9:15, teachers will encourage students to say goodbye to parents and escort students into the school. Please note: Pick-up time is earlier this year. Students will be dismissed at 3:44 p.m. through the same doors they used to enter in the morning. Our instructional hours, Grade 1 - 5:
Lunchtimes are Mondays to Thursdays:
Kindergarten instructional hours
Drivers: On the first day of school, please be patient as many families will want to accompany their children, which can make the school grounds a little busier than usual. Parking is very limited, so we encourage families to walk to school or park off property whenever possible. Please remember there is no parking in the traffic circle or on the road leading to the school. Thank you for helping us keep everyone safe and ensuring a smooth start to the day! Chalk-the-Walk We would like to encourage all families to join us on Monday, September 1, from 4:00-5:00 pm for ‘Chalk the Walk’. Come see familiar staff faces and create an inspiring, heartfelt message to welcome our Edgemont students on their first day of school! Please note: We are aware of messaging in the community about another chalk-the-walk event connected to the community association. The school event is scheduled to welcome students back to school and is held the night before the first day of class. School Council The first School Council meeting will be on September 16th at 6:30 pm in our school learning commons. We hope you will consider coming to a meeting and learning more about how this vital group supports teaching and learning opportunities in our school. IIf you would like to volunteer at the school, please fill out the linked expression of interest form. Volunteer Expression of Interest Our Volunteer Coordinators are also maintaining a sign-up list for known volunteer opportunities in the school. That sign-up list can be found on this link. Volunteer Opportunities Volunteers need to have a current Police Information Check (PIC). PICs are valid for 5 years, and you can start the process by checking in at the office. Will there be changes? As in previous years, we want to share an update regarding class organization. As our registration numbers become clearer in the first few weeks of school, there is always the potential for some reorganization. We take this process very seriously and consider many factors to ensure that any changes are made thoughtfully and with care. Our primary goal is to create balanced and strong learning communities for all students. To achieve this, we may need to make adjustments once we have a clearer picture of new student enrollments and any unexpected challenges. It is important that parents and students understand that the teacher you start with on Tuesday may not be the teacher that you have for the year. For this reason, we are not able to accommodate requests for individual classroom changes during the first two weeks of school. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to create the best possible learning environment for every child. We are looking forward to a great year of learning and growing together!
