Good Morning Kindness
Please be kind and courteous when dropping your children off in the mornings at school. Please leave yourself extra time so that you are not rushed when dropping off your children. Sometimes the person in front of you in the drop off needs a bit more time. Please take a breath and be kind.
Are you missing messages that the school bus is late?
Please ensure that you have signed up for MyBusStop. Please go to the Edgemont School Website and look for the Icon that says MyBusStop with a school bus on it.

Happy Asian Heritage Month!
Our students were fortunate to see both the Lion and Dragon dances at a guest performance this week! According to their website, “Lion Dance is a form of traditional dance in Chinese culture and other Asian countries in which performers mimic a lion's movements in a lion costume to bring good luck and fortune.” http://jingwo.com/

Calgary Minecraft Challenge
Last week was our deadline for the Level Up Calgary Minecraft Challenge. For this year, students had an opportunity to redesign Haultain Park in downtown Calgary or design an entrance for the Green Line Train station. Students worked on their designs singly and in groups doing work at home and during free time in school. We had 10 students offer submissions: Alex, Aaron, Evan, Markus, Yimmin, Gabriel, Amin, Sophia, Grey, and Ernest.
We were allowed two submissions for Div 1 and two submissions for Div 2 (one for Haultain and one for the Greenline). Our students produced a range of submissions for Haultain park, incorporating natural greenspaces, water features, jumpy castles and roller coasters. We had students create restaurants and museums with indigenous learning spaces attached to the Greenline Entrance.
Our final choices were selected for focusing on the student rubric looking at Resilience in economics, Society and Climate. Also, Students had to create a space that reflected vibrancy and sustainability.
In the end, there could be only two.... In Div 2, we picked Alex for Haultain Park, and Grey for the Greenline entrance. Each submission was highly detailed and addressed many of the needs within a city. Alex had solar panels and a water reclamation system to make the park sustainable, and Grey created a multiuse entrance with restaurants and hotel suites included in the station.
All other schools have also submitted their student's design. The Calgary Board of Education Minecraft Designate will then choose the best submissions for each division and then submit those to the city of Calgary, which will choose the best overall ones from all the boards.
I will be posting information about the process as it unravels! Good luck to our two Minecraft designers!
End of Day Dismissal
When parents call to inform that they will be late picking up their kids after school, please remind them that school ends at 3:50pm. If need be, they might need to make other arrangements to ensure kids are picked up on time. There is not always staff in the office to be watching kids who are still at school as late, (or later), as ½ hr past dismissal.
Early Morning Arrival
Please DO NOT drop your children off before 8:45 am. School is not open and there is no supervision prior to 8:45.
Family Dance
Mark your calendars – The Edgemont School Council is sponsoring a Family Dance – May 23
The theme of the dance is 80’s Retro!
Time to dig out those bell bottoms and dancing shoes. Maybe that old denim jacket to match that big hairdo.
This year's Family Dance is happening on Thursday, May 23 from 6pm - 8pm. That's plenty of time to practice some disco moves or boyband routines.
Tickets will go on sale via Healthy Hunger on Monday. More details to come next week.
