October Updates

Check back weekly to see updates to the monthly messages.

Thank you to all the parents/guardians and staff for your productive collaboration during the conferences to work together to support our student's success.

Halloween Costume Guidelines

Halloween is a fun day, and students are welcome to dress up if they choose! Please ensure that costumes allow students to fully participate in all activities, including standing and sitting. For safety and appropriateness, no props, weapons, or inflatable costumes are permitted. Keep in mind that we are a K-5 school, so costumes must be suitable for our youngest students as well. We look forward to a fun and safe Halloween celebration!

Pumpkinella

Pumpkinella is a unique tradition at Edgemont School! Every year, students and families are encouraged to bring their carved jack-o-lanterns to school on Halloween. Our amazing parent council volunteers arrange a display for students to visit throughout the day, helping us all get into the Halloween spirit.

Pumpkins can be dropped off in the Panorama Room in the morning during soft entry. Parents can enter through the foyer, using the right doors leading to the community center.

Design, carve, or dress up a pumpkin to display!

  • Drop-off: Thursday, October 31, 8:45-9:00 am in the Panorama Room
  • Pickup: 3:40-4:05 pm (unclaimed pumpkins will be composted)

A spooky welcome is encouraged, but please ensure no violent or offensive images. Happy Halloween!

Book your Conference Tomorrow!

Just a friendly reminder that the conference booking system for our upcoming Parent-Teacher Interviews will open tomorrow. This is your chance to select a time that works best for you to discuss your child’s progress and how we can continue to support their learning journey. We encourage you to book early to secure your preferred time. Bookings are done through your MyCBE portal. We look forward to connecting with you and working together to support your child's success!

Book Fair

We are excited to announce that our Scholastic Book Fair will be held from October 21 to 25! Students will have time during school to browse the selection, and they are encouraged to return with you during parent-teacher interviews to shop. The book fair brings valuable resources into our Library Learning Commons and supports our students' love for reading. If you're interested in volunteering, please contact Karan Lee at [email]. We appreciate your support in making this event a success!

Thank you, Parents, – Staff Coffee and Treats

Thank you so much to our wonderful Edgemont Parents and Council for the Coffee Truck and treats in the staff room last week! We are truly feeling the love and are incredibly grateful for the kindness and support from our wonderful community. Your generosity has brightened our day and made us feel appreciated.

Orange Shirt Day Reflections:

Orange Shirt Day is an important occasion for our school as we reflect on the need for reconciliation through education. Each classroom engaged in age-appropriate activities to help students build their understanding of this significant day. To honor this day, classes shared snapshots of their work, which you can view on our school’s YouTube channel. We are committed to fostering awareness and understanding, and we appreciate your support in this meaningful journey.

Firedrills

As part of our commitment to safety, we conduct six fire drills throughout the school year. The drill held this week was the 2nd of 3 required drills before winter break.  These drills help ensure that students and staff are prepared in the event of an emergency. Fire drills are an important part of keeping our school safe, and we appreciate your support in reinforcing their importance at home.

Remembrance Day Food Drive

Edgemont School is honoured to be accepting food donations for the Veterans Food Bank of Alberta for Remembrance Day 2024. Veterans Food Bank of Alberta offers a variety of services to assist veterans in need, whether financial assistance, clothing and laundry aid, therapy and food services. Collection boxes will be located outside the main office from Thursday, October 17th-Thursday, November 14th and will be accepting non-perishable food items, toiletries, and cleaning supplies. For more information on items to donate, please refer to the Food Bank’s “wish list” on your child's Google Classroom stream. Thank you for your participation in giving back to our Calgary veterans.

2024-2025 ES Volunteer Forms - We value our Volunteers!

The CBE requires that volunteers register with their school each year. This process ensures that only approved individuals are working with our students. If you’d like to volunteer at Edgemont School, please complete the form linked HERE. This form is maintained by our School Council Volunteer Coordinator and helps our volunteer coordinator to keep a list of available volunteers and match your interests with available opportunities. Please note that a valid Police Check is also required to be cleared for volunteer activities. If you need to arrange for a Police Check please come to the office and we can assist you. As always, your personal information is kept strictly confidential.  Thank you for your cooperation and continued support of our school community!

Save the Date - Parent Teacher Conferences

Parent Teacher Conferences will be October 24th and 25th.  Parent-teacher interviews are coming up soon, and this is a valuable opportunity for us to connect and discuss your child's progress, strengths, and areas for growth. These conversations help us work together to support your child's learning and well-being throughout the school year.  The conference booking system will open October 19th at 9am and is available through your MyCBE portal. We look forward to meeting with you and strengthening our partnership in your child’s education!
