🚴‍  Bike to School Day is Monday! 🚴‍♀️

We're excited for Bike to School Day this Monday!

The forecast is currently calling for light rain, which may not affect us too much. However, if the weather takes a turn for the worse, we’ll reschedule for a sunnier day next week — we’re determined to make this event happen at our school!

We’ve had several parents volunteer to help out — thank you! Ms. Howes will reach out to you individually with more details.

More information can be found in the attached document and in your class Google Classroom, and be sure to watch your School Messenger on Sunday for an update in case we need to reschedule.

Fingers crossed for clearer skies! 🌦️

Exciting News for Our School Community!

We’re thrilled to share that we are exploring a new partnership to bring Kindergarten before and after school care right here at our school! The licensing process is already underway, and we’re hopeful that this new program will start September 2nd.

Stay tuned for more details coming soon!

Join us for the School Council AGM - JUNE 3rd (new date) at 6:30 pm

We would like to invite you to attend our School Council Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Tuesday, June 3rd at 6:30. This is an important opportunity to get involved in shaping the future of our school and to contribute to the vibrant community that supports our students.

Edgemont School Council needs new volunteers to step into vacant roles for the 2025-26 school year. There are many ways to become involved, with varying levels of time commitment.

If you are interested in becoming more involved in your child's school, please reach out to the current chairperson, Heather Whelan DuJohn, edgemontschoolcouncil@gmail.com

Our School Council and Fundraising Society play a vital role in supporting our school administration and ensuring our school thrives. They are essential partners in making decisions that impact our children's education and well-being. Whether it's helping to guide school policies, planning activities, or advising on the use of funds raised through our various fundraising efforts, your input and involvement are incredibly valuable.

Why should you join us?

  1. Make a Direct Impact on Your Child’s School Experience: By joining the School Council, you will have a voice in decisions that affect your child’s education, from curriculum discussions to school-wide initiatives.
  2. Contribute to Fundraising and School Purchases: Our fundraising efforts directly benefit students, whether through new classroom resources, special programs, or events. Your participation ensures that funds are used effectively to enhance your child’s learning experience.
  3. Strengthen Our School Community: School Council is a great way to meet other parents, build connections, and help foster a positive and supportive school environment.
  4. Opportunities for Leadership: We will be filling several key positions for the upcoming year, and your involvement could help bring fresh ideas and energy to our initiatives.

We need your voice and ideas to ensure a successful and strong year ahead. Please join us at the AGM on May 28 to learn more about how you can make a difference!

Looking forward to seeing you there!

Lost and Found

We have lots of clothing in the lost and found!  Please have your children come and look through the lost and found for their clothing.

Book Fair is Coming!

We are excited to announce that the Scholastic Book Fair has been rescheduled to June 9-12! This is a wonderful opportunity to get great books for your child while supporting our school.

New this year: We’ve added an after-school shopping window on Friday, June 9 from 4:00 - 6:00 pm, so parents can visit the Book Fair at their convenience.

We hope to see you there!

Inform | Transportation Registration and Walk Zone Changes for the 2025-2026 School Year

Edgemont School Bell times are changing for the 2025-2026 School year.

  • Start time – 9:15
  • End Time 3:44
  • Friday End time 1:14

The information below was sent to parents this week by CBE Transportation

What's Changing?

The CBE will be expanding yellow bus service and adjusting walk zones for the upcoming school year. This is in response to Alberta Education’s School Transportation Amendment Regulation for student transportation that comes into effect on Sept. 1, 2025.

Bell Times

Aligning bell times across schools makes transportation more efficient, allowing each bus to run multiple routes. This creates a reliable transportation system, allowing students to get to school safely, on time and ready to learn.

All the bell times for the 2025-26 school year are available on the Bell Times page.

Transportation Eligibility and Walk Zones

Transportation eligibility distance and how it is calculated is changing will now be measured by driving distance instead of walking distance. That means next year, more students will become eligible to take the bus and school walk zones will look different.

To find a school’s walk zone map, visit CBE’s Find a School Tool and follow these instructions:

  • Type in a home address or search by school in the drop-down menu.
  • Choose a program under Program Options.
  • Click on the grade(s).
  • Below the map, in the “Programs” column, click on the grade/program for the school.

§  This will display the walk zone for the school/program.

§  Note: only one walk zone can be displayed at a time.

To learn more about transportation eligibility and walk zones read the Walk Zone news story

Transportation Registration is Now Open

Families are now able to register for school bus service for the 2025-26 school year using their MyCBE account.

Families must register by Sunday, June 22, 2025 for students to be added to routes for the start of the next school year.

CBE Transportation will continue to accept registrations after the deadline; however, students are added to the closest existing bus stop with available space. Processing times for registrations submitted after the June 22 deadline will be delayed. Confirmed routes are posted in late August. For those who register after the June 22 deadline, it may take until mid-October before those students are able to ride the bus.

Transportation can be cancelled with no financial impact by submitting the cancellation form by Sept. 30, 2025.

2025-26 Transportation Service Levels & Proposed Fees

The proposed fees for transportation service for the 2025-26 school year are as follows:

·        $360/year for those students designated to yellow school bus transportation

·        $180/year for one-way kindergarten transportation

·        No fee for students attending specialized classes who are designated to specialized transportation

·        All high school students and many others in Grades 6-9 are designated to Calgary Transit. Learn more about Calgary Transit services and fees on our website.

Learn more about service levels and proposed fees on CBE’s website

In Case of Extended Vacation (June or September) 🌴✈️🏖️

As we prepare for the upcoming school year, we kindly ask families to notify us if there are any planned absences, such as vacations, before the end of the current school year or if there are any changes in your child’s return in September. This information is crucial for our planning and budgeting, as school funding is based on student enrollment at key points throughout the year. If your child will not be here in June or September, please let us know.

We want to ensure that your child is counted and that our school receives the appropriate funding. Please reach out to Mr. Quinney at bwquinney@cbe.ab.ca. We may need some paperwork to confirm your child’s intent to attend Edgemont School for the 2025-2026 school year.

Thank you for your cooperation in helping us make next year the best one yet!

🚍 Monday is Bus Driver Appreciation Day! 🚌

They brave traffic, snow, and dozens of conversations about Minecraft—all before 9 AM! On Monday, let's show some love to the heroes of the yellow chariot. A wave, a thank-you, or even a drawing from your child can go a long way to make their day.

After all, they don’t just drive—they steer our kids’ mornings in the right direction! 💛👏

Thanks to our amazing bus drivers for getting our students to school safely (and on time... most of the time 😉)!
