Important Lunch Schedule Update for ALL Grade 1-5 students

Please be advised that we are making an adjustment to our internal schedule to ensure greater equity between grades. Starting February 3, the lunch schedule will change as follows:

  • Division 2 (Grades 4–6): Lunch from 11:35 AM to 12:20 PM
  • Division 1 (Grades K–3): Lunch from 12:25 PM to 1:10 PM

This change aims to provide a balanced and fair schedule for all students. Thank you for your understanding and support as we make this adjustment. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact the school.

Cold Weather Reminder ❄️

Calgary’s temperatures are expected to be extremely cold next week. We anticipate indoor recess for most of the week, but if the temperature rises above -20°C, we will take advantage of the opportunity for some fresh air, even if only briefly. Please ensure your child comes to school with warm clothing, including a hat, gloves, and proper winter gear, so they are prepared if we are able to go outside.

Dance Residency with Sound Kreations 🎶💃

This week, our students are moving and grooving with Sound Kreations, a dynamic dance residency bringing energy, creativity, and fun to our school! Led by professional instructors, students are exploring new dance styles, building confidence, and expressing themselves through movement. Many thanks to our Edgemont School Parent Association for funding this residency! 🎵✨

School Remodel

Our bathroom floors are in the works of being redone, to which we are all incredibly grateful and reminding all students to treat respectfully.

Happy Lunar New Year!

As we step into a new season of learning and growth, we are excited to celebrate Lunar New Year together! This year, Lunar New Year begins on January 28th and marks the start of the Year of the Snake in the Chinese zodiac. This vibrant celebration is observed by many cultures, including Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, and others, and is a time for family, reflection, and renewal.

Lunar New Year holds deep cultural significance, symbolizing a fresh start, good fortune, and the renewal of hopes and dreams for the year ahead. Families often come together to share meals, give red envelopes (symbols of luck and prosperity), and honor traditions that have been passed down through generations.

To ensure that we celebrate respectfully and inclusively, here are a few culturally appropriate ways to acknowledge Lunar New Year:

  • Use greetings like:
  • "Happy Lunar New Year!"
  • "Gong Xi Fa Cai" (Mandarin) or "Gong Hey Fat Choy" (Cantonese), meaning "Wishing you wealth and prosperity."
  • "Seollal Jal Bonaeseyo" (Korean) or "Chúc Mừng Năm Mới" (Vietnamese), meaning "Happy New Year."
  • Avoid generic references to "Chinese New Year" if you’re addressing broader communities, as this celebration is shared across many cultures.

To those in our community who celebrate, we wish you a joyful and prosperous Lunar New Year! May this year bring peace, happiness, and success to you and your families.

FITSET NINJA PROGRAM

We are thrilled to announce an upcoming opportunity for our students to engage with the Alberta Physical Education curriculum through an exciting Fitset Ninja program! Students will participate in an extravagant Mobile Obstacle Course.

This program aligns with our commitment to providing diverse and enriching physical education experiences, focusing on developing fundamental movement skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship. The trained Fitset Ninja professionals of will guide the students through various activities to improve their balancing, jumping, and agility skills.

Each class will have 2 sessions held on Monday, January 13th and Tuesday, January 14th in our school gymnasium. We recommend students be sent to school wearing comfortable, athletic clothing and sturdy shoes suitable for physical activity.

We are excited about this opportunity for the students to learn and enjoy the Ninja Fitset Mobile Obstacle Course while meeting the Alberta curriculum standards for Physical Education. If you have any questions or need further information, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher or the physical education teacher (Lisa Harvey llharvey@cbe.ab.ca).

The cost for this Ninja Fitset program will be $22.00. It is payable online through your MyCBE account or in the office with debit or credit only. Please do not send money with your child to school. As the amount is calculated by the number of students in the classes, there will be no refunds for this activity.
